a little catchup and some photography fun

2 September 2010

I thought I’d take an opportunity, while editing some really gorgeous weddings, to share with you what kind of portraits I’ve been up to this summer. I thought it also a good time to remind everyone that it’s September. After September, it’s October. Before you know it…it’s Christmas. And if any of you are anything like me…you’ll wait until December 1st (my birthday…fyi…for the gift givers out there) to realize that you want holiday pictures to send with your Christmas cards.

I’ll get to my point regarding that in a moment…for now…enjoy some summertime cuteness I had the liberty of capturing.

Now that I’ve had a photo-tangent, back to what I was saying about family holiday pictures. You should have them done.

friendly decor

30 August 2010
by jenifriend

When I first started in photography, I took pictures of things. Lots…and lots…and lots of things. It’s from those beautiful still shots where I ventured into portraits — taking pictures of flowers and trees was the foundation from which my business began.

In an effort to keep myself tied to my roots, I still try to get away and have lost time every few months, to capture the essence of God’s divine design…whether I’m just hopping onto my porch or getting lost on a windy Kansas back road, the need to see things from a non-portrait perspective keep me on my toes and (I think) helps to keep  my portrait creativity strong.

With that being said, I’m happy to announce “friendly decor,” an extension of my business where my captures from lost time are available to the masses.

Click here to go to the full gallery of images.

Images are available on regular print and printed canvas, starting at $15.00 for printed 8×10 images. Through September 7th, if you purchase a canvas print of any size, I’ll throw in an 8×10 image of your choice, for free. Contact me at info@jenifriendphotography.com for additional details!!

i’m too sexy for my camera

27 August 2010

Back in May I had the great honor of being asked to be the exclusive Photographer for The Steichen Fashion Show at The Nelson-Atkins Museum. Edward Steichen, among many things, was a Photographer. He was said to the be the first person to ever photographic fashion in a formal studio setting. In May, five local designers were asked to showcase and detail the types of clothing found in Edwards handiwork. It was such an amazing experience and definitely a turning point for me, as I begin to start finessing my runway photography skills for the up and coming Color+Couture 2010 Fashion Show.

Happy Friday and fantastic weekend wishes to you all! See you on Monday!

my favorite places in the world are…

25 August 2010

…outside…capturing God-created moments that are fleeting yet exquisite. Getting the phone call from my friend Annie saying, “getyourbuttdownhererightnowthere’sarainbow!” makes these moments a thousand times more meaningful. There we stood…outside in silence with only the sound of a 1/250 second shutter speed to share the joy with us of what we saw.

It wasn’t huge. It wasn’t grand. But by God, it was gorgeous…

Happy Wednesday!

a lovely transition

24 August 2010
by jenifriend

The majority of 2010 has ensued a hefty transition into a new life. The kind of transition which requires walking away from the comfort of something no longer comfortable, and walking into the black abyss of rekindling who I am and determining where I was to be…where I was to spend my days…with whom I should share those days…and what truly leaves smiles upon smiles upon smiles on my face and most importantly…my heart.

Love changes. It evolves. It dissipates. It rekindles. It explodes. It masters itself and becomes a lifeform that takes precedence in everything you do. It rocks you to your core and stirs something inside you that, once found, can’t be shaken. It drives you to make decisions that, to anyone else, seem swift and reckless. It moves you to a level of greatness that only you…and the one with whom you share that love…can ever begin to understand.

The most difficult of decisions, in my experience, have been the most life changing. These same experiences require more time away from the world than I really expected. While I’ve been busy capturing family, senior and celebratory wedding moments over the summer, my blogging has lacked. Finding the right words to say about each session, all the while knowing that I’ve left my readers out in the dark of what I’ve been experiencing personally, made it very difficult to post. I’m not one to hide behind a smile – so I just hid completely.

To put it bluntly – many of my first couple months post-breakup really sucked.
To put it bluntly – running into the man who had always stirred my soul…and igniting a fire in my heart I’d plum forgotten existed…really rocked.
To put it bluntly – deciding to say yes to his proposal rocked to the nth degree.

My evolution of love happened in one summer. The summer of love…and life…and more love. I hope you’ve had an exceptional few months as well and I can’t wait to share more with you moving into the fall season.

flower love

8 July 2010
by jenifriend

I’m going to share a secret with all y’all…a secret too few know about moi but really should…

…I’m not a huge fan of flowers.

It’s true. I’m that girl who begs to not get flowers on holidays. I’m that girl who says, “well…they die…so don’t bother.” I’m that girl who ruins romance for all other women, because once their husbands and beaus hear that I don’t want them…then they’re justified in never making the splurge ever again. Restrain yourselves, lady friends. Before you pull out the pitchforks and flaming torches - check out my rhyme to my reason.

Yeah…you see those right there? THOSE are my rhyme to my reason. The flowers that didn’t arrive on a cliche holiday. The flowers that needed to be purchased because…well…my countertop needed some pizazz (or so he says). The flowers that didn’t cost an arm PLUS a leg. The flowers that are in season and, while they’ll eventually die, currently live vibrantly and have been given with an abundant amount of love from the hand of a man who is pretty darn special to my heart.

::sigh:: wicked sweetness. with a side of awesomesauce. this heart is slowly but surely…filling.

braydon scott | young love

7 July 2010

For a majority of my life I was the only girl among many male cousins. Practically the oldest (and in my opinion – the brightest), I knew how to spin the wheels of “my boys” and…always…get what I want.

Then we grew up and grew out of the small town we ran over with our Huffy bikes…

…and…in some ways…I lost my boys.

BUT! What’s that saying? When one door closes another door opens? Is that right?

I’ve got a new boy…and he’s sooooooo cuuuuuuuuuute!!! And he’s all mine…every three months…for the next year. *squeal*

Meet my new man, Braydon. You’ll remember him hanging out in the sweet belly of his gorgeous Momma back a few months ago…he’s heeeere!!

This picture is worth more than a thousand crispy sharp images because it captured Jennifer and Braydon in a moment that can’t ever be recreated…it just goes to show that sometimes the blurriest of photos is the best one taken!

And finally…because we all know I have to end horizontally…my favorite shot from the session…

I heart you Braydon and can’t WAIT to see you grow up into the amazing little man I know you’ll be!! I’m sure your Momma can be patient in you sprouting…but me??…I’m DEFINITELY looking forward to next month!! :)
